Dear Residents
We write to update you as to the steps that the Council are taking in response to the unauthorised caravan site in Broomfield.
Officer’s from the City Council’s Planning Enforcement Team visited the site earlier this week to assess the works that had taken place and to ascertain the occupants circumstances.
We can advise the Council has now obtained an Interim Injunction Order from the High Court. This Order was served on the occupants of the land today.
This Order prohibits the bringing on of any further caravans, mobile homes or other structures, or the carrying out of any further works of development in connection with the preparation of the land as a residential caravan site. A copy of this Order is available to view online via the Council’s website quoting reference 23/00282/ENFA.
The site will now be monitored to ensure that no breach of the terms of the Interim Injunction. Please note the occupiers of the land are permitted to move those trailers and other structures that are already stationed on land to and from the land.
A hearing is to take place on the 12 October 2023 at the High Court to confirm the Order and the Council is also considering further action in advance of this hearing to address the development that has taken place.
Please note, the occupiers of the land have submitted a planning application which seeks consent for the change of use of the land to a showmen’s quarters – reference 23/01487/FUL. This application is currently being processed by our Validation Team so is not yet being considered. Once the application has been validated, site notices will be displayed and a period of consultation will begin during which residents may make representations in respect of the proposal. Once validated, the application documents will also become publicly viewable on the Council’s website.
